Service and Community

Social Justice Group

St Aidan's and Trinity Uniting Churches run a combined social justice group which usually meets for a seminar and lunch after church on arranged Sundays. The Group's aim is to raise awareness and to urge involvement in justice, peace and human rights issues. The annual Nellie Watson Memorial Lecture on social justice issues is held in October.

St Aidan's also hosts regular meetings of the Bourke Presbytery Social Justice Network, which supports projects for Asylum Seekers and other areas of need.

Mission Group

St Aidan's Mission Group meets regularly to plan and organize fund-raising events in support of the UCA Sunshine Mission. In addition, baskets are placed in the entrance to the church to receive groceries and toiletries, and these, together with donations of toys, clothing and blankets, are transferred monthly to Sunshine Mission.

Pastoral Visitors Group

A group of committed members makes regular visits to frail and aged members, or people recovering from medical procedures or ailments.

Sammy Stamp Group

The Sammy Stamp Group is part of the UCF (Uniting Church Fellowship) fundraising effort which has raised thousands of dollars for Missions by trimming and sorting used stamps. We welcome your occasional, regular or at-home help. Stamps may be left at the church.

Chaplaincy in Schools

St Aidan's provides regular support and funding for chaplaincy at Balwyn High School.

Inter-Church Council

St Aidan's is a strong supporter of the activities of the North Balwyn Inter-Church Council.

Other service opportunities at St Aidan's include:

  • attending the monthly working bees with Friends of the Gardens
  • joining the after worship morning coffee roster
  • transporting food donations to Sunshine Mission
  • joining the flower roster
  • helping on the monthly plant stall
  • being a member of our choir and contributing to worship through music.
